Question asked is, "How long/much cardio should I do?"
I recommend various types of cardio every day, with respect to your program. Most people go until they sweat, the tv show is over, or they finish checking emails. Maximize your fat burning capabilities!
The key is KARVONEN! The Karvonen Formula is the best method to determine your training heart rate. RHR is your resting heart rate. The best time to get that is after waking up.
[((220 - Age) - RHR)x Intensity%]+RHR
Ex: 35 yr old
1. 220 - 35 = 185
2. 185 - 75 (RHR) = 110
3. 110 x .60 (60% intensity) = 66
4. 66 + 75 (RHR) = 141 bpm
So this 35yr old person should maintain heart rate at 141 bpm, on whichever form of cardio they desire, for as long as possible. I recommend varying the intensities daily so your body does not grow accustomed.
